Purpose: This policy outlines the procedures and guidelines for changing nappies at MHR Sports Services Holiday Camp to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of all children in our care.

Scope: This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and caregivers involved in the care of children who may require nappy changing during their time at the holiday camp.


Policy Statement: MHR Sports Services Holiday Camp is committed to providing a safe, hygienic, and respectful environment for all children. The following procedures must be adhered to when changing nappies:

  1. Hygiene and Safety:
    1. Staff must wash their hands thoroughly before and after each nappy change.
    1. Disposable gloves must be worn during the nappy changing process.
    1. A clean changing mat must be used for each child and sanitized after each use.
    1. Soiled nappies must be disposed of in designated, lined bins that are emptied regularly.
  2. Respect and Dignity:
    1. Nappy changes should be conducted in a manner that respects the child’s privacy and dignity.
    1. Where possible, nappy changes should be done in a private area designated for this purpose.
    1. Engage with the child in a calm and reassuring manner throughout the process.
  3. Parental Consent and Communication:
    1. Obtain written consent from parents/guardians for nappy changing upon enrollment.
    1. Inform parents/guardians of any nappy changes that occur during the day and note any concerns such as rashes or unusual bowel movements.
  4. Staff Training and Responsibilities:
    1. Only trained staff members are authorized to change nappies.
    1. All staff involved in nappy changing must have up-to-date training on hygiene practices and child safeguarding.
    1. Staff must document each nappy change, including the time and any observations, in the child’s daily log.
  5. Emergency Situations:
    1. In the case of a nappy rash or other skin condition, inform the parent/guardian immediately and follow their guidance on care and treatment.
    1. In case of an allergic reaction or severe rash, seek immediate medical attention and inform the parent/guardian as soon as possible.
  6. Facilities and Supplies:
    1. Ensure that the nappy changing area is well-stocked with nappies, wipes, gloves, and changing mats.
    1. Regularly check and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the nappy changing area.

Review and Compliance: This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure it meets the needs of the children and complies with any changes in legislation or best practices. Non-compliance with this policy may result in disciplinary action.
